For my teachers ...
My mommy asked me a question
to hear what I had to say
she wanted to know the things I'd learned
in preschool everyday.
So I told her about Uranus
and the creatures in the sea
I pointed to my octopus
and my terrific "All about me"
I learned about dinosaur bones
and saw horses on nature walks.
It's fun to play with play-dough
and I made castles out of blocks.
I can sing a song about a skeleton
Bony is his name
there's one about buying bubble-gum
and our good-bye song each day.
You taught me my numbers in French,
I can say lots with just my hands,
I can't believe I saw a fire-truck
and oh, what I know about plants!
The pancakes were yummy
show and tell was really great
my mommy has one question,
were those real jelly fish I ate?
You taught me so many games
It was hard to pick the best
"alphabet bingo" and "musical mats",
"under the blanket" and the rest.
So why am I telling you this?
The things you already know,
I want you to know that I take with me
such happy memories as I go.
When my mom thinks of my preschool
she thinks of my smiling face
and all the things that I told her
we've done together in this place
This poem is my farewell,
these words are my good-bye,
I told mom I'll miss my teachers
(she's hoping I don't cry)
I shopped for flowers
for each of you
you can think of me as they grow
because I will never forget you
with love, your friend
